Youth (in) Culture

Illustrations for a project that implemented temporary filmmaking, design and street art courses in high schools.

The project, initiated by BLOK – a curator collective, brought together artists and students to produce participative art and was aimed at the students of grammar and vocational schools in Croatia. The aim of the project was to teach the students about critical thinking, creativity and the process of making an artwork, while stressing the important role art plays in broader social processes.

I was commissioned to do the illustrations that were to be applied to the promotional materials for the project. The brief was to make the illustrations interesting and appealing to the students, while clearly communicating the project's agenda of collaboration in making and understanding art.

The illustrations are based in geometry, have a slightly industrial feel and all feature two characters working together. All of that stresses the collaborative nature of the project. Neon colors chosen by the designers add to the visual appeal of the posters and notebooks for the participants. Design and art direction by Roberta Bratović and Nina Bačun of Oaza .
